Why choose Cherokee County GA to be your home? Below I quote an excerpt from the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce website describing their heartfelt sentiments of why they call Cherokee County home. I couldn't have said it better myself.
"Hear the Etowah River flowing through the hills and valleys of our home and smell the fragrance of honeysuckle and native azaleas. Do you hear the muffled sounds of moccasins on the banks of our creeks? Imagine the thrill of finding gold in "them thar hills". Share the pain of the tragic Trail of Tears and hear the thunder of Sherman's invading cannons. Listen for creaking of the wagon wheels carrying cotton to the cotton mills. See dust settle as quarried rock is sculptured into marbled wonders and watch world class race horses training to set national records." No wonder Senator Dean Rusk also makes Cherokee his home.
Cherokee County offers spectacular scenery and recreational opportunities, Lake Allatoona, a colorful history, a vibrant, family oriented present and a very optimistic future. Business in Cherokee County moves at the Metro Atlanta pace, but the hospitality still remains traditionally southern.
Established in 1831, Cherokee County was originally 6,900 square miles, stretching over most of North Georgia. In the first millenium, Cherokee was home to a culture known as the Moundbuilders. The first recorded people to inhabit Cherokee County, however, were the Cherokee and Creek Indians in the 1700's.
White settlers began to migrate to Cherokee after the discovery of Gold in Daholnega in 1829. The harmony of living with the land that the Indians were accustomed to soon changed as the industrial revolution began to settle across Georgia.
