Legend has it that the name Holly Springs came from Indians that camped at a spring near where the town was formed.  Holly trees grew beside the spring, thus the city derived it's name.  Holly Springs was incorporated in 1906 and became a busy little town after the L&N Railroad established a train depot there.  Today, the restored train depot is an active community center for Holly Springs.

Carlton Ragsdale, an early resident of Holly Springs GA, operated a marble mill, cotton gin, planning mill, flour mill and saw mill.  John Ragsdale, his son, also ran a corn mill and later became postmaster.

Today, over 200 businesses are located in Holly Springs.  Considering the size of Holly Springs, this is quite an accomplishment.  The city's location to I575 makes it an ideal business environment.  In 2000, local business owners joined together to form the Holly Springs Business and Professional Association.  An excerpt from their Mission Statement is as follows:  "we shall work together to stimulate a healthy and attractive business climate that will benefit the general welfare of all who live and work in our community".
