I'm your Woodstock GA Realtor and would be glad to answer any questions you may have about Homes and Real Estate for Sale in Woodstock Georgia, Towne Lake Real Estate, Woodstock Georgia Golf Course Home and Community, Lake Allatoona Real Estate, Canton GA Real Estate, Cherokee County Georgia Real Estate and more ... just give me a ring.  If you would like to see a complete list of the Atlanta Area cities and counties that I serve, please scroll to the bottom of the page.

Over 100 years old, the town of Woodstock is located in the southernmost part of Cherokee County and is approximately 30 miles north of Atlanta.  If you stop by the Woodstock Visitors Center at Dean's Store, opened in 1906, you will find a slogan there that says "where yesterday lives and tomorrow waits".

It is unknown how Woodstock derived it's name, but there are many entertaining stories to choose from.  One story claims that Woodstock was derived from a novel of the same name by Sir Walter Scott.  Another story claims the train stopped in Woodstock to "stock wood" ... thus it's name.  Now, I like to think there was a little more thought put into naming the town than this, but it could be relative to the times.  And then there's the tale that a man named Mr. Woodstock settled in the area and started a school ... I like this one.

The Marietta and North Georgia Railroad came to Woodstock in November 1879.  It is presumed the first train depot was built at this time.  The city had a population of 300 people, comprised a total of 960 acres and was mainly known as an agricultural community of cotton.

In 1913, a new depot was built and the old one was demolished.  The new depot was used to transfer freight and passengers, was manned by an agent and had a full-fledged communication service using telegraph until the late 1950s.  Students attending school in Canton and Marietta used the train as commuter transit.

Still a proud part of Woodstock history, the depot is currently home to the Downtown Development Association.  Located next to the depot is a retired caboose donated by Norfolk Southern in July 1992.  A National Register nomination for the depot was accepted by the State Office of Historical Preservation, but several questions about the history of the depot still remain unanswered.

The Woodstock Downtown District includes antique shops, tearooms and special event facilities.  Specialty shops such as a hair salon, gift shop, flower shop, coffee house and furniture store reside downtown.  Services available include chiropractic care, day spa, car repair and more.

For a relaxing afternoon or evening, the city park provides benches in a beautiful setting.  Various activities are held here throughout the year, including 4th of July events, Christmas jubilee, concerts in the evening and Brown Bag Concerts during the summer months.

If you love the water, Woodstock is the place to be.  Surrounding the northeastern edge of Lake Allatoona, it offers lots of summer pleasure.  Victoria Harbour and Kellogg Creek offer beach and campground sites.  Little River Landing offers a restaurant, convenience store and boat rental.  The Outdoor YMCA is across the street from Little River Landing and offers a beach and summer camping fun for the kids.  Lake Allatoona is very a popular summer spot for those that love the lake....and yours truly is one of them J.
