"Hidden Beauty in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains", was the theme of Waleska's centennial celebration in 1989. The city of Waleska Georgia is located about 6 miles northwest of Canton, just beyond the Great Sky subdivision. This quaint hamlet is a small rural community that prides itself on being the home of Reinhardt College. The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce states that the population of Waleska is around 700+.
It is my guesstimate that Waleska will be the next hot spot in North Cherokee County. The new Bluffs Technology Park, Hickory Log Creek Dam and mall slated for Canton will be located just outside of the Waleska area. In addition, rumor has it there is a new highway entrance slated for I575 in this area. I hear the property values rising! Lake Arrowhead is a private, gated community and currently the largest development in the area. Lake Arrowhead offers a gorgeous scenic mountain terrain overlooking the community's 540 acre spring-fed lake. Of course, not every home is located on the lake or with a lake view, but your travels throughout the community will take you past several breathtaking scenic overlooks. Lake Arrowhead is the largest private, man-made lake in Georgia. Lake Arrowhead also offers a championship 18-hole golf course, horse back riding, an olympic size swimming pool, tennis courts, and country club and restaurant overlooking the lake. Reinhardt College was founded in 1883 and named after Augustus Michael Reinhardt, born in Waleska GA on June 22, 1842. Reinhardt College is accredited to award baccalaureate and associate degrees and has also been approved by the United Methodist Church to be listed as a United Methodist affiliated institution. Baccalaureat Degrees are offered in art, biology, education, business administration, communication, english, history, music and religion, just to name a few.
